Director of Channel Sales - New York City
Leading provider of voice & data solutions.
The Director, Channel Sales is responsible for the design, implementation and management of the indirect sales channel. The indirect sales channel shall include the establishment of a national sales channel through the recruitment of master agents and channel business partners. A key part of this role will include identifying and developing new business (channel). In addition, responsibilities will include building, institutionalizing and measuring successful processes and go-to-market strategies with our channel partners. Initial channel development to begin locally (in the tri-state area) and subsequently expand nationally.
  • Report to New York City office daily (not a virtual position)
  • Must have significant experience in launching a channel division from scratch preferably in the area of voice, VoIP & data solutions.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
·         Design, implement and manage a comprehensive indirect sales channel:
o     Evaluate current solutions to be offered in the channel
o    Identify, evaluate and implement technology requirements to support the channel – i.e. web portal, commission tracking system, etc.
o    Determine and document brand awareness and value proposition
o    Establishment of a comprehensive channel recruitment/reseller program
§ Establish recruitment qualification standards
§ Establish workflow between the channel and internal resources
§ Create systems and procedures to streamline partner management
§ Design and development of channel agreements
§ Design and implementation of client engagement rules
§ Recommend payment structure and processes
§ Define maintenance requirements for ongoing support
o    Establishment of a comprehensive channel marketing program
§ Prepare proper reseller/agent collateral
§ Design, plan & execute campaigns with key channel partners
·         Meeting and exceeding set sales quotas
·         Build and develop regional and national account strategies
·         Build long-term, successful partnerships through training and marketing positioning
·         Develop and close business with channel partners within defined territories
·         Establish and maintain strong relationships (individuals and organizational) with channel partners and senior level management
·         Setup exclusive or limited territories
·         Continually collect new insight and knowledge of marketplace – competition – offerings, pricing, value proposition, etc.
Education/Professional Requirements
·         5+ years experience in the design, implementation and management of a national indirect sales channel program
·         Bachelor’s degree required
·         Outstanding communication skills – verbal and written
·         Successful achievement of 1M+ quotas, consultative enterprise/solution or technical sales
·         Ability to manage a pipeline with multiple accounts and partners
·         Ability to work in a team environment
·         Proven success prospecting, building a pipeline, moving opportunities through the sales cycle, proposing, presenting and discussing solutions with C-level and other decision makers
·         Ability to craft a solution with appropriate products and services that meets business goals based on client discussions
In addition:
·         Must be able to eventually travel up to 25-40% of the time
·         Qualified candidates will be required to conduct an in-person presentation and submit a writing sample

General Job Activities:

-   Responsible for new product leadership, product line vitality/modifications and developing

    pipeline of products to ensure sustainable stream of innovative product introductions.

-   Use customer and consumer insights to identify potential new product opportunities.

-   Manage new product development projects to maximize speed to market, completeness and

    accuracy.

-   Establish plans that include product positioning and branding strategies.

-   Provide leadership and creative and strategic oversight throughout the process.

-   Use judgment, influence, and gating process to stop less viable projects early to avoid

    unproductive consumption of resources.

-   Manage new product development costs to ensure budgetary constraints are met.

-   Drive new product/brand development via collaboration with peers across the organization,

    working closely with the executive management team, sales & marketing, and manufacturing

    segments, as well as outside consultants.

-   Work with other functional areas to gain a complete understanding of market needs,

    competitor price points, propose pricing, merchandising, packaging and promotional

    strategies.

-   Developing and presenting new product business cases including cost/benefit analysis and

    resource planning.

-   Reinvent, reposition and grow an established and recognized line of branded products in a

    very competitive category via new product and brand development efforts.

-   Develop brand positioning/re-positioning strategies.

-   Responsible for direct management of new product development personnel to include

    establishment of objectives, key work assignments, and performance management.

-   Initially responsible for activities highlighted above in the gable top packaging area, but may

    later be utilized in other paper manufacturing areas as deemed appropriate.

 

Specific Job Activities:

Project Selection: Work with Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing and Customer Marketing teams    to identify new product opportunities.



 Feasibility Study: Work with Marketing & Commercial accounting to develop initial

Feasibility study to include both Management & Commercial presentations.



 Project Planning: Develop comprehensive project plan to include:

- Budget

-  Time line

- Internal resources

- External resources

- Deliverables

 

Project Management:
Position will be responsible for the overall deliverables as agreed upon in the project document including the management of commercial relationships through the initial start up phase.


Commercial Presentations: Position working with the Sales organization will work to

Develop commercial opportunities for the project.

Management updates: Position will update management on a monthly basis or as required.  

 

Education, experience, skills, special training (required/desired): 

-   BS degree (engineering, technical, marketing)

-   7-10 years of industry experience. (Packaging or Converting preferred)

-   Proven record and specific examples of driving sales growth and market share for business-

    to-business or branded consumer goods products.

-   History of playing key role in new product introductions, launching new products and bringing

    innovation to existing brands/products.

-   Strong leadership and team building skills.

-   Ability to lead teams at all levels of the organization and effectively balances multiple

    projects/initiatives.

-   Assertiveness and strong interpersonal and influencing skills.

-   Entrepreneurial nature, ability to make timely decisions and willingness to take calculated 

    risks.

Experience
Must have proven cradle to grave experience managing and selling projects ranging from $300 million and up through multi-billion dollar global projects.
 
Responsibilities
-         The successful candidate for this position will have responsibility to identify, develop, and grow an impressive Department of Defense (DoD) business, on both first of a kind projects and those within our experience.
-        Based on the candidate's past successes, the successful candidate will develop and implement well thought out business strategies for capturing projects.
-        They will set annual marketing budgets and prepare for bidding opportunities to meet and exceed stated business metrics for this $5B business unit.
-         Lead, conduct and grow the sales of services to the Department of Defense and related agencies within the Federal government.
-         Present proposals to senior executives and have the fortitude to make "go" and "no go" decisions.

10 to 15 plus years of experience in developing Federal business with emphasis in the Department of Defense to include US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and US Naval Facility Engineering Command (NAVFAC).
